Hexagon Chair

Smartwood

2016

The story

During my second bachelor we got a course called smartwood.
The objective was to create a smart object using wood.

With smart they meant an object that could transform. It had to be a product that we could use in everyday life, but still interesting enough to change the design.
During ideation I really wanted to create a chair or sitting object.

Ideation

The first concept had a more sleek design and had a conic form. This would be hard to create on the table saw, because I didn’t really knew a lot about that machine at that time. I decided to make the form more simplistic and straight so it would be easier to see. I tried to make the product as compact as possible by sliding the top of the table onto the chair and hide the legs under the sitting board so you have to shove the 2 sides to the side to take out the sitting board to get to the legs.
